"S" for swine flu

豬流感病毒

Again the world has been awaken by another close possibility to flu pandemic, and this time it is from swine, the swine flu virus.

Authorities, such as CDC and WHO, have done great jobs to keep the disease under the control at the moment.

Looking back at what has happened recently regarding the outbreak of zoonotic diseases with the potential of causing pandemic, such as SARS, avian flu, Nipah virus, and now swine flu, one thing that we can't missed is mostly, if not all, these viruses are from the highly congested livestock areas such as farms and markets.

Perhaps, a total change in the current paradigm of livestock management practices into a better one for disease control should be implement.

Perhaps I am a too impractical person possessing a "too scientific fantasy" brain that always thought of the possibility of reverse genetic phenomenon where the feed, water, and waste in these farms containing the building blocks of these contagious viruses where the farm environment serves as a great incubator for the packing of these building blocks to form functional and contagious viruses to take place prior to infecting human.

All this is just my imagination.
